OAA Information The International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia is the only Journal publishing original articles devoted exclusively to obstetric anesthesia and bringing together all three of its principal components; anesthesia for operative delivery, pain relief in labour, and care of the critically ill obstetric patient. It was published in the journal Anesthesia and Analgesia. This manuscript describes the current state of the art of cognitive aid use during obstetric emergencies to improve labor and delivery room team response to the emergency. It investigates the use of cognitive aids to improve maternal and fetal outcomes in these situations. The Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) was founded in 1968 to provide a forum for discussion of problems unique to the peripartum period. SOAP is comprised of anesthesiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, and basic scientists from around the world who share an interest in the care of the pregnant patient and the newborn. A wide diversity of patients and obstetric disease coupled with superior clinical expertise provides the backbone for our clinical fellowship training in Obstetric Anesthesia.

Because so many hospitals focus on the importance of growing their obstetric business, this is an aspect of anesthesia practice management that must be taken very seriously and managed very closely. The Division of Obstetric Anesthesia at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake (UWMC-ML) provides a one-year ACGME fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesia (OBA). During this year fellows will learn and practice state-of the-art clinical care, including expertise in labor analgesia and the anesthetic management of high-risk pregnancies.
